Conectas
The HIV Legal Network, formerly the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network, promotes the human rights of people living with, Conectas is NGO based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, since 2001. It’s work is divided in 3 areas: Strengthen Democratic Space, Fighting Institutional Violence and Defense of Social Environmental Rights. It has advisory status at the UN and observer status at the African Commission for Human Rights. Conectas engages with several local and international networks for decision making with a global south perspective. It’s tools range from media mobilization, strategic litigation and advocacy, and publications, such as the Sur Journal for Human Rights. It’s drug policy initiative exists since 2008 and focus on the disproportionate effects of the war on drugs on non-white populations and, recently, on curbing attempts to enshrine coercive treatment as the main drug policy in Brazil.
